Here is a picture of a female Melanochromis parallelus from July 13, 2004. In the background, a female estherea with fry in her mouth can be seen. Taken with my Olympus C-5060WZ.
I have always been captivated by M. auratus, but only as a juvenile, as I think it becomes a bit dull as an adult, where the colors tend to bleed together, especially on the male. This is not the case with parallelus - the male is clearly patterned in blue and black, and the female is yellow and black.
I have bought an adult trio, but there hasn't really been any sign of breeding yet - so far.
